Overtime, technology has made a increasing presence in our world. As the importance and availability of technology increases, it is becoming difficult to ignore its impact on society. Therefore, educators have started to incorporate it into their daily lessons. Technology has proven to be beneficial in classrooms in many different ways. First off, technology supports the instruction of the teacher and allows for a better understanding. If the student does not understand the teacher's wording, he or she can do research and find a better explanation that suits their learning style. This saves both the teacher and the student time and stress. Technology also helps to prepare an individual for modern life and gives them a head start for the future. In order to ensure the incorporation of technology in classrooms there are both national and state standards. An example of a national standard is the No Child Left Behind Act which requires all students to be technologically literate by the end of eighth grade. States demand that educators have specific technological skills and consider educational technology literacy as a core competency. In other words, if you are not skilled in technology, you will not be able to get a job at a school. As technology continues to develop, free and online apps are being created to aid educators. For example, PowerPoint allows for a teacher to make visually appealing lessons and Teach-nology aids in teacher administration. Technology also significantly assists students. For students, technological tools serve as a individualized, focused reinforcement for prior learning. Since students learn in many different ways, it is hard for a teacher to satisfy every student. Therefore, online websites that serve a certain learning style may be more interesting to a student and keep them engaged. Technology also promotes mind growth and creativity which is essential in the modern world. Overall, technology is extremely beneficial in the classroom and is constantly improving.

Prior to this reading, I had never heard of the ISTE Standards. Coming from a school with little technology, I think these standards are extremely important. One standard that I found particularly important was that of standard three. Standard three states that educators should encourage students to positively contribute and participate in the digital world. As a person who believes that the purpose of education is to expand an individuals point of view and ability to understand, this standard sums up my ideas. One standard that seems outside my current skill set in standard two. This standard states that an educator should seek out opportunities for leadership to support student empowerment. In my experience, schools are run as dictatorships and students are expected to obey everything the teacher says. Therefore, when I read this statement, I was shocked as when I was a student I was never put in a powerful position by my teachers.

Digital native is a term that describes a person who grows up in the digital-age and is adapted to using technology. In my opinion, this is a valid term to describe today's youth. Today's youth begin using technology in preschool and are experts by the time they are six years old. Having been a student of a school with little technological incorporation and training, I have watched teachers struggle just to display a powerpoint to the class. Also, my French teacher didn't even know how to log out of her computer and no one bothered to teach her. In general, technology keeps on adapting and it is difficult to keep up with. Therefore, I think students will always be slightly better than the teacher with using the current technology no matter how much the teacher practices.
