So far, my experience on Twitter has been successful. The accounts I am following provide me valid and interesting updates on the education system in our country. I especially enjoy the account @educationnation as it shares interesting facts and articles. Twitter could be helpful in my future career as it can give me ideas about lessons and how to teach my students. Also, I can gain inspiration and knowledge from teachers everywhere.

The digital divide describes the gap between those who have access to technology and those who do not have access to technology. It affects students by creating an advantage to those who do have technology. It is assumed that a student surrounded by computers is better able to get information while a student that has a lack of internet access will not be experienced and have a disadvantage upon entering the modern workforce. The main causes of digital divide are poverty and a lack of education. If the parents of the student are poor or did not go to college, it is far more likely that they cannot pay for internet services. As a teacher, I will definetely encounter students on both sides of the digital divide. Therefore, I will have to make sure each student has an opportunity to experience technology. For instance, I could bring the students to a library or computer lab during class time. Also, I would make sure every homework assignment could be done without the help of a computer.

Since I most likely will become a first or second grade teacher, I will not be using complicated student software. Two types of software I will use a lot will be graphics software and presentation software. Graphics software will definitely help with this age group as they lack the ability to stay focused for long periods of time. Therefore, fun animations and drawings will keep the students entranced by the lesson and help them learn in a entertaining way. Presentation software can aid me in making flashcards. In the first grade classroom I volunteered in, the teacher used flash cards and put numbers on them for a game. The students would grab two random cards and have to add whatever numbers they got. To the students, this was a game. However, it was also a teaching method. Two types of software I will most likely not use are that of reference software and problem-solving software. Both of these software programs are too complicated for first and second grade students. This programs are better suited to middle and high school students who can do independent research.
